A spaghetti story.

Once Upon A Time...

There was a beautiful girl. Her name was Bryn. One day, I got broken up with, and I was sad, but I happened to go on this magical road trip with said girl named Bryn, and she spoke such words of peace and comfort to my soul, because she had recently gone through a very similar situation. She is so dear to me! So when I heard she was getting married, I was so overjoyed, and Krista and I agreed that we must go to her reception. So we did.

We drive up to highland to get to the reception, and there was this HUGE LINE OF PASTA BUFFET GLORY!! Kris immediately started to dash for the goods, but I said, no no no, we must go through the line first. So we get in line, look at cute pictures of Bryn and Kyle, and get to hug the beautiful bride!! She suggests that we go through the photo booth. So we go to the photo booth, and take a few pictures, all of which look ridiculous because the reverse camera was broken and we couldn't see ourselves. We were just cracking up the whole time, and we both looked super rough and demon-like (actually only Kris looked demon-like). So we get out of the photo booth and we are both still cracking up, and the guy hands us one of the strips of pictures. "Don't we get both of them?" Asks Krista. "Nope, the other one is for the bride & groom, but you can write a message on the bottom of it for them" So he leads us to the table with the pens for writing messages, and hands us the other picture strip. As soon as the photographer walks around the corner, Krista SNATCHES the photo strip and we quickly walk away both still roaring with laughter... Until Krista happens to run into a chubby blonde 12 year old with a HEAPING plate of fettucine alfredo. The plate just plops onto the front of his white button-up shirt... and there is alfredo all down the front. As we are both already laughing, we immediately try to stop laughing, but it is in vain. Krista is frantic and asks, "IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO FOR YOU AT THIS MOMENT?!?!?" And the boy kind of stutters and is like... "uhh... no... and then confusedly walks away." As soon as he walks away, we are just howling at our situation... And this big fat lady in a purple dress comes up and is like, "Well, you can start by not laughing girls!!" We are silent. The grumpy lady lumbers away to the pasta table... And we start hushedly chuckling again. "We are leaving" I say. "BUT THE PASTA!!" cries Krista. "No, Kris, hahaha we have got to GO! THE FAT PURPLE LADY IS BROODING OVER BY THE PASTA TABLE" (which is true) Kris: "Can we just... leave... through the house, on the way which we happen to walk past the pasta table?" "that lady hates us! We've got to go!!" She finally convinces me (which was a good idea, cause the pasta was SO DANG GOOD), and we quickly grab pasta and take it directly to her car where we sit and eat by ourselves.

The end.

Krista's Mission Call!!

The day that we have been all been waiting for arrived!!! Krista got her mission call to The Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission on Wednesday, and she reports to the MTC September 12th. She is STOKED. And so am I!! Here's how the day went.

I got out of class and called Kris, who was on her way home from conducting an interview at the baseball stadium, and I RAN to the mailbox... Krista of course had hijacked the mail key a few days ago, but LUCKILY, there is a crack in our mailbox and I was able to peer through the door and see that THE MISSION CALL WAS IN THERE!! I waited for Kris to get home, and she opened the mailbox and we both started screaming our heads off!!!

Then she had like 3 emotional breakdowns, tried to open it, and changed her clothes 4 times. Everybody came to our apartment- Summer & Andy, Billy, Mackenzie, Kim, Angie, Heidi, and then we got Jamie, Charina, and CJ on skype/cell phones.

Then brother and sister Roy came! With pepperoni rolls and chocolate peanut butter cookies! Pretty much right after that Krista just kinda lost it and was like, "OK I'M GOING FOR IT." She ripped open the envelope, and just started laughing. And crying at the same time, actually. She tried to say what the call was 2-3 times, but she was just laughing so hard that she couldn't do it. She said, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO" as her mom yelled out, "REXBURG" and "PROVO" And then she said, "I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING WHEN I SAY THIS: The Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission!!" And everyone laughed. And she said, "What the heck?!"

It has been 2 days and the tears of joy and disbelief have not ceased! After that we went to Cafe Rio, checked out Billy & Krista's newly painted row boat, (FREE BIRD), and went to Krispy Kreme, where Brother Roy led us in a chorus of Happy Birthday to the cashier named Tyler. I have never been so endeared to Brother and Sister Roy than I was on this day!! Krista looks like Sister Roy and she talks like Brother Roy. They are both so funny and kind, and I am so happy that they are my best friend's parents!

Anyway, that's what happened; its all a little surreal still. In other news, spring term is half way over! I sewed a jacket! I have strep throat! And it's memorial day weekend!

B-irds. All of the birds are coming out! I am so excited to go birdwatching next week!
C-ory Newton. I like a boy. And his name is Cory Newton. That is all. :)
D-raw Something. An addicting game that I played like 11 times yesterday haha. Bad news, bears.
E-lephantitis. Confession: I watched "The Elephant Man" A week before I went to Uganda... and was totally freaked out that I was going to get Elephantitis. Probably more afraid than I was of getting AIDS. I just got asked the other day if I had AIDS actually... hahaha. Right before I spit a piece of candycane into someone else's mouth...
F-acetime. Did you know you can like... skype on an iphone? WANJI THE COOL?
G-uitar! I never practice for my guitar class haha. Probably because there are no playing tests (instills little motivation) and I have zero time. But I love to play! I've been workin on the railroad!
H-aun's Mill. Read an article the other day that the Church purchased land from Community of Christ in Haun's Mill. So cool!
I-Phone. I'm in love. With my iPhone. It's probably an unhealthy obsession, but it is SO FREAKING COOL.
J-acket. I am sewing a jacket right now in my sewing class. Freaking hard.
K-rista!! Kris and I went on a date on Tuesday to Noodles and Co. And my parents paid for it. BEST NIGHT EVER. Except there were boys there hahaha. I cherish her soul!!
L-aundry. So one time I did my laundry... Like 2 weeks ago. And I still haven't folded it. Therefore, there are clean and dirty clothes ALL OVER MY ROOM. This is called: PROCRASTINATION. Poor Krista haha.
M-om. I love my mom! I don't know why I am thinking so fondly of her right now, but I am! And she is wonderful!
N-itwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!
O-range. There has been an orange sitting in my backpack for 4 days. This is gross.
P-ottermore. SO FREAKING COOL. Also, I'm in Slytherin. RAB forever!!
Q- I'M PLAYING SCRABBLE RIGHT NOW AND I HAVE A Q AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!
R-UM. Why is always the rum gone?!
S-audade. "deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves"
T-hree more days!!!!
U-p Dog. (What's "Up Dog?")
V-iolin. I think I have secretly always wanted to play the violin.
W-armth. Sunshine! Green Grass! Happiness! Summer! Birds! Trees! Wind!
X-I've been looking up x words... And none of them are very cool. So I'm going to leave it at this: XENOPHILIUS LOVEGOOD!!
Y- Yogurt. I am eating yogurt right now. Here is my dilemma: I always eat breakfast at work/in class... and I have NO PLASTIC SPOONS. I am drinking out of a yogurt cup right now! And looking ridiculous for sitting with my head tilted back for long periods of time waiting for thick amounts of dairy to enter my mouth.
Z-zzzzzz. I should be asleep right now. These 7am shifts are killing me!

It's May!

So the end of winter semester was pretty brutal... Lots of tough stuff going on, but I survived! And oh how excited was I to start spring term- new classes, new work schedule, SO MUCH FREE TIME. Little did I know that this was not how life was to be! Last week I worked 35 hours, and I am taking 8 credits. 8 credits?! What was I thinking?! It was the LONGEST week of my life, and definitely the one with the least amount of sleep. I love being busy though. I have loved diving into new classes and working my tail off. This term I'm taking Math 362- Survey of Geometry, Intermediate Clothing Construction, and Guitar! I love all of my classes, but the nerd in me is LOVING my geometry the most. We talk for hours about abstract concepts that totally make my brain hurt, but it is all super interesting. It brings me back to the good ol' days of freshman year where Brother Robison was my geometry teacher at my first class after moving to Washington. Brother Robison became a good friend and mentor during my growing up years, and I will always be grateful for the powerful impact he had on my life. (sorry- tangent). Anyway, GEOMETRY. SO COOL. We were asked to look up some scriptures on what it means to be "straight" and these are some that I came up with:

Ecclesiasties 1:15: “That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.” (not
crooked)

Luke 3:5: “Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth. (Absence of concavity)

Ezekiel 1:23: “And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.” (infinite line segment, going in opposite directions of each other)

1 Samuel 6:12: “And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left, and lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.” (no curves, or turns)

Doctrine and Covenants 3:2: “For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left, neither doth he vary from that which he hath said, therefore his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round.” (Straightness of a sphere)

Jeremiah 31:9: “They shall come with weeping, and with supplications, will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the
rivers of water in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn” (alignment, parallel)

Here's a tricky question for you:

Is the equator a straight line?

RIGHT?!? So thought provoking. Anyway here' some more goodness:

Anyway, that's pretty much all I got concerning geometry. Sewing is freaking hard. I don't like it, haha. And guitar is pretty fun; I've had little time to practice, so I need to catch up on that. Anyway, the point is... I'm missing my family a bit right now.... and Cory... haha. But hopefully I'll see both of them at the end of June in CALIFORNIA!! Two weekends from now, Krista, Kim, and I are going down to Vegas for Emily & Tristrams wedding which will be really fun, and then we will drive back Sunday morning... when Cory will be here to visit me :) Stoked. That's all that's really going on... Next time I will post when I have something substantial to say haha.

Preschool-isms

I'm taking a class, SFL 222, which has you working about 12 hours a week in the BYU preschools. Its SO time consuming, but you get a free snack every day and the kids make you laugh, so semi-worth it. Here's a couple of cute things I've heard in the past couple of weeks (I want to be a mom!)

-"Teacher. I have a riddle that you'll NEVER guess."
"Ok Megan, what is it?"
"What do you get... when you cross a "chicken-hen" a dinosaur, a basket of peaches, a t-shirt, and a box of crackers?"
"No idea Megan... what is it?"
"HA.... I KNEW you'd never guess it."
(there was no answer...)

-We're in the "home center" and there are 2 phones. Gavin goes to pick up a phone and says, "I'm going to talk on the phone now." Up until that point, "I'm talking on the phone now" is a cue for me to pick up the other phone and talk to them. So I go to pick up the other phone.
"You can't use that!"
"Why not, Gavin?"
"Those are only for people. Only people can use those."
"...Uh I'm a person?"
"No you're not! You're not human! You have to be 65 to use it!"
"You're 4 years old!"
"I'M PRETENDING TO BE A GRANDPA!!"

Megan takes me to the sandbox to show me how she can bury a ball that has a string attached to it, and then pull the string to un-bury the ball. (This is called: magic.)
"TEACHER. LOOK WHAT I FOUND"
"What is it?"
"IT'S A MAGICAL SEED!" (holds up a rock)
"Woah cool! What does it grow into?"
(shrugs) "Just a castle..."

During my interactive literature activity (the "big" project of the term that we have to do) I'm reading a book to the class called "Growing Vegetable Soup." In the middle of the story, Megan raises her hand and makes a comment. Usually I try to ignore these so that we can keep on task, but I was intrigued by what she had to say (since she usually makes the funniest comments), so I let her continue.
"Teacher! I know how to say broccoli in Spanish!"
"Ok Megan, what is it?"
"It's brock-o-lock-o-lock-o-lock-o-lock-oli!"

Megan walks up to me with a brown piece of construction paper with pipe cleaners sticking out the sides of it.
Megan: "Teacher! Read this!"
(Looks at random scribbles)
Elise: "Uhh... it says 'I love to eat food'"
Megan: "NO TEACHER. It says 'I love my friends!'"

I walked up to Megan playing in the sandpit picking up rocks and putting them into a plastic container.
"Megan, what are you doing?"
"I'm collecting rocks to make music so that I can make people's lives easier..."

"Megan, tell me a story!"
"Ok, here's a really good one I thought up of. Once upon a time there was a chicken who was glued to a door.... I don't really want to tell you the rest because there's underwear in it."
"I still want to hear it!"
"Ok, so there's a chicken glued to the door, and he kept trying to open the door with his wings, but he couldn't because he was glued SO TIGHTLY!! And then, he had to lay some eggs. So he just laid them in his underwear!"

Megan: "I JUST LOVE FAT PEOPLE SO MUCH!!"

I was going to the bathroom, and the lock was broken, so a teacher and a boy opened the door only to find me exposed. All of a sudden, the little boy just starts screaming the most horrifyingly blood curdling scream I have ever heard... and I just started cracking up at his reaction... Didn't know I was so scary half naked.

I was walking out to recess and all the kids are running around screaming "LOST SCOOTER! LOST SCOOTER!" So I ask one of them what was going on, and they said that Adam had told everyone that he stole a scooter and buried it somewhere, so all the kids were going crazy, looking for clues as to where it was. They were picking up pieces of garbage, leaves, and wood chips and gathering them at one of the picnic tables to examine for evidence. Megan came up to me and said, "Teacher would you like to help me find mysterious objects?" So we started digging in the sandbox for "mysterious objects" and I just kind of found this wood chip and I'm like, "MEGAN! IT'S A CLUE! WHAT DOES IT MEAN?!"
"I know what it means!"
She held it close to her face and squinted her eyes at it.
"There's a message written in invisible ink that only SPIES can read. It says "Dear Megan, I wonder when you will find the lost scooter. Love, An old friend.... I KNOW WHO THAT OLD FRIEND IS!!"
"Who is it?"
"I'll whisper it in your ear"
She leaned VERY close to my ear and whispered it, but it just felt like she was blowing air in my ear and it really tickled. I had her do it twice until I finally figured out what she was saying: 'Wizard Wamu'
"Who's Wizard Wamu?"
"DON'T YOU KNOW WHO WIZARD WAMU IS?!?"
and she ran off.

At snack, I was lifting my legs up underneath the table and making it shake and yelling "EARTHQUAKE!" Adam was like, "no... you're doing that!" "No I'm not!" "Yes you are!"
He then started to lift the table up, but couldn't quite do it, so I helped him secretly by lifting my legs up.
"Adam! You are so strong!"
"Yeah I know. I can lift this table up all by myself... (and with a serious face)... and throw it at your FACE."

This isn't the preschool... This is at Krista's sister's house in Monroe.

We were playing a game where I was the bad guy and I fell asleep, and the kids would come wake me up, and then I would chase them, put them in jail, and then fall back asleep, where they would then escape and wake me up again. Anway, after probably 4-5 rounds of this, I got a little tired of it and suggested playing another game.
Elise: "Let's play another game!"
Brooke: "No! We love this game!"
Viana: "But you're the perfect old hag!!"
Elise: "What?"
Viana: "... That means witch."

Viana: "Ok, pretend my name's Lilah"
Brooke: "I'm Sarah!"
Ram: "I'm Batman! ... I mean Snow White!"
Charly-Ann: O.O

.... more to come
