Krista's Mission Call!!

The day that we have been all been waiting for arrived!!! Krista got her mission call to The Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission on Wednesday, and she reports to the MTC September 12th. She is STOKED. And so am I!! Here's how the day went.

I got out of class and called Kris, who was on her way home from conducting an interview at the baseball stadium, and I RAN to the mailbox... Krista of course had hijacked the mail key a few days ago, but LUCKILY, there is a crack in our mailbox and I was able to peer through the door and see that THE MISSION CALL WAS IN THERE!! I waited for Kris to get home, and she opened the mailbox and we both started screaming our heads off!!!

Then she had like 3 emotional breakdowns, tried to open it, and changed her clothes 4 times. Everybody came to our apartment- Summer & Andy, Billy, Mackenzie, Kim, Angie, Heidi, and then we got Jamie, Charina, and CJ on skype/cell phones.

Then brother and sister Roy came! With pepperoni rolls and chocolate peanut butter cookies! Pretty much right after that Krista just kinda lost it and was like, "OK I'M GOING FOR IT." She ripped open the envelope, and just started laughing. And crying at the same time, actually. She tried to say what the call was 2-3 times, but she was just laughing so hard that she couldn't do it. She said, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO" as her mom yelled out, "REXBURG" and "PROVO" And then she said, "I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING WHEN I SAY THIS: The Utah Salt Lake City Temple Square Mission!!" And everyone laughed. And she said, "What the heck?!"

It has been 2 days and the tears of joy and disbelief have not ceased! After that we went to Cafe Rio, checked out Billy & Krista's newly painted row boat, (FREE BIRD), and went to Krispy Kreme, where Brother Roy led us in a chorus of Happy Birthday to the cashier named Tyler. I have never been so endeared to Brother and Sister Roy than I was on this day!! Krista looks like Sister Roy and she talks like Brother Roy. They are both so funny and kind, and I am so happy that they are my best friend's parents!

Anyway, that's what happened; its all a little surreal still. In other news, spring term is half way over! I sewed a jacket! I have strep throat! And it's memorial day weekend!

Some thoughts... in the form of the alphabet.

A-vengers. I AM GOING TO SEE THE AVENGERS TONIGHT!! God bless [Captain] America!!
B-irds. All of the birds are coming out! I am so excited to go birdwatching next week!
C-ory Newton. I like a boy. And his name is Cory Newton. That is all. :)
D-raw Something. An addicting game that I played like 11 times yesterday haha. Bad news, bears.
E-lephantitis. Confession: I watched "The Elephant Man" A week before I went to Uganda... and was totally freaked out that I was going to get Elephantitis. Probably more afraid than I was of getting AIDS. I just got asked the other day if I had AIDS actually... hahaha. Right before I spit a piece of candycane into someone else's mouth...
F-acetime. Did you know you can like... skype on an iphone? WANJI THE COOL?
G-uitar! I never practice for my guitar class haha. Probably because there are no playing tests (instills little motivation) and I have zero time. But I love to play! I've been workin on the railroad!
H-aun's Mill. Read an article the other day that the Church purchased land from Community of Christ in Haun's Mill. So cool!
I-Phone. I'm in love. With my iPhone. It's probably an unhealthy obsession, but it is SO FREAKING COOL.
J-acket. I am sewing a jacket right now in my sewing class. Freaking hard.
K-rista!! Kris and I went on a date on Tuesday to Noodles and Co. And my parents paid for it. BEST NIGHT EVER. Except there were boys there hahaha. I cherish her soul!!
L-aundry. So one time I did my laundry... Like 2 weeks ago. And I still haven't folded it. Therefore, there are clean and dirty clothes ALL OVER MY ROOM. This is called: PROCRASTINATION. Poor Krista haha.
M-om. I love my mom! I don't know why I am thinking so fondly of her right now, but I am! And she is wonderful!
N-itwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!
O-range. There has been an orange sitting in my backpack for 4 days. This is gross.
P-ottermore. SO FREAKING COOL. Also, I'm in Slytherin. RAB forever!!
Q- I'M PLAYING SCRABBLE RIGHT NOW AND I HAVE A Q AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT!!
R-UM. Why is always the rum gone?!
S-audade. "deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves"
T-hree more days!!!!
U-p Dog. (What's "Up Dog?")
V-iolin. I think I have secretly always wanted to play the violin.
W-armth. Sunshine! Green Grass! Happiness! Summer! Birds! Trees! Wind!
X-I've been looking up x words... And none of them are very cool. So I'm going to leave it at this: XENOPHILIUS LOVEGOOD!!
Y- Yogurt. I am eating yogurt right now. Here is my dilemma: I always eat breakfast at work/in class... and I have NO PLASTIC SPOONS. I am drinking out of a yogurt cup right now! And looking ridiculous for sitting with my head tilted back for long periods of time waiting for thick amounts of dairy to enter my mouth.
Z-zzzzzz. I should be asleep right now. These 7am shifts are killing me!

It's May!

So the end of winter semester was pretty brutal... Lots of tough stuff going on, but I survived! And oh how excited was I to start spring term- new classes, new work schedule, SO MUCH FREE TIME. Little did I know that this was not how life was to be! Last week I worked 35 hours, and I am taking 8 credits. 8 credits?! What was I thinking?! It was the LONGEST week of my life, and definitely the one with the least amount of sleep. I love being busy though. I have loved diving into new classes and working my tail off. This term I'm taking Math 362- Survey of Geometry, Intermediate Clothing Construction, and Guitar! I love all of my classes, but the nerd in me is LOVING my geometry the most. We talk for hours about abstract concepts that totally make my brain hurt, but it is all super interesting. It brings me back to the good ol' days of freshman year where Brother Robison was my geometry teacher at my first class after moving to Washington. Brother Robison became a good friend and mentor during my growing up years, and I will always be grateful for the powerful impact he had on my life. (sorry- tangent). Anyway, GEOMETRY. SO COOL. We were asked to look up some scriptures on what it means to be "straight" and these are some that I came up with:

Ecclesiasties 1:15“That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.” (not
crooked)

Luke 3:5“Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth. (Absence of concavity)

Ezekiel 1:23“And under the firmament were their wings straight, the one toward the other: every one had two, which covered on this side, and every one had two, which covered on that side, their bodies.” (infinite line segment, going in opposite directions of each other)

1 Samuel 6:12“And the kine took the straight way to the way of Beth-shemesh, and went along the highway, lowing as they went, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left, and lords of the Philistines went after them unto the border of Beth-shemesh.” (no curves, or turns)

Doctrine and Covenants 3:2“For God doth not walk in crooked paths, neither doth he turn to the right hand nor to the left, neither doth he vary from that which he hath said, therefore his paths are straight, and his course is one eternal round.” (Straightness of a sphere)

Jeremiah 31:9“They shall come with weeping, and with supplications, will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the
rivers of water in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn” (alignment, parallel)

Here's a tricky question for you:

Is the equator a straight line?

RIGHT?!? So thought provoking. Anyway here' some more goodness:

Anyway, that's pretty much all I got concerning geometry. Sewing is freaking hard. I don't like it, haha. And guitar is pretty fun; I've had little time to practice, so I need to catch up on that. Anyway, the point is... I'm missing my family a bit right now.... and Cory... haha. But hopefully I'll see both of them at the end of June in CALIFORNIA!! Two weekends from now, Krista, Kim, and I are going down to Vegas for Emily & Tristrams wedding which will be really fun, and then we will drive back Sunday morning... when Cory will be here to visit me :) Stoked. That's all that's really going on... Next time I will post when I have something substantial to say haha.
